Cub Scout Regatta

September 16, 2010 By Mandy Beyeler 3 Comments

A few weeks ago I heard about an upcoming cub scout event and an upcoming gorilla glue contest – I immediately knew they could go hand in hand.

My husband found a design for an ultimate regatta boat online – it’s the “catamaran” version – I’m sure you can google it.  And boy-oh-boy, it’s fast.

Anyways, this is a perfect project to involve the whole family.

First grab the supplies:

Then saw the wood like the directions say:

Grab some siblings for the sanding job:

Glue various parts:

Add your own wind and head to victory!

Entering the DIY CLub ( I can’t get their special Gorilla Glue Party button to work – hopefully this will count..)

We had ours last night and used the same design. We modified it a little (actually used the mast) because I wasn’t sure what the rules were. It turned out that there weren’t any (unlike the Pine Wood Derby!!) and the only regatta that beat us was the same design without the mast!!

So I can verify that the catamaran is a great way to go!
