Whoopie Pie from Green Gracie Home

May 9, 2011 By Mandy Beyeler 6 Comments

I am so happy to be here at Sugar Bee Crafts…thank you Mandy for having me and all of my zaniness!
I am Beverly from Green Gracie Home where I blog about running a little decor company while raising 4 kids and a hound (oh, and two frogs and a few hamsters).
These are some of my favorites to make with my kiddos, mainly because I love to eat these treats when we are done…

Whoopie pie

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Whoopie pie (alternatively called a gob, black-and-white, bob, or “BFO” for Big Fat Oreo) is an American baked good that may be considered either a cookie, pie, or cake. It is made of two round mound-shaped pieces of chocolate cake, or sometimes pumpkin cake, with a sweet, creamy filling or frosting sandwiched between them.
If you have never had a whoopie pie, now is your chance – there are many recipes, but this is a quick, easy and delicious one!  It has all the best parts of a brownie – crunchy, chewy, moist.

Ingredients:
  • 1 box Duncan Hines Chewy Fudge (important)
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups of chocolate chips –  I use a 6 oz bag of mini chips
  • Frosting – I use Publix frosting that they have by the bakery, but Duncan Hines recommends their Homestyle Classic Vanilla
Preheat your oven to 350 and spray two cookie sheets.
Get a cute helper:

Place your ingredients in the bowl:

When you stir, it is very thick and you think you don’t have enough liquid.  Keep stirring and you will get a large ball of batter.

Drop onto cookie sheet – I use a mini-scooper.

Your helper will wonder where her chocolate chips went.

Bake until just cracked and barely set in center – about 12 minutes.  Transfer to a cooling rack and let cool for at least 30 minutes (you don’t want to melt your frosting).

Add a layer of frosting and make little sandwiches.

Try not to eat them all before lunch time!
