NO-SEW Fairy Costume

October 1, 2015 By Mandy Beyeler 3 Comments

I was provided product for this post as part of the Michael’s Makers team

It’s that time of year for fun costume crafting!  If you’ve been reading for any time at all, you’ll know that I love quick and simple projects – this is no exception.  There’s just something fun about creating handmade costumes, and it doesn’t have to be overwhelming.  Today I want to show you a quick NO-SEW Fairy Costume Idea – –

I whipped one up for my niece for her 3rd birthday, and she’s a big fan 😉

I was challenged by Michaels to create a DIY Halloween Costume and was immediately inspired when I saw the fairy wings in store.  Whether you’re into spooky sights, playful pumpkins or giggling ghouls, the Michaels.com Halloween project page has tons of ideas for DIY Halloween costumes and décor.

make your own fairy costume

Let’s get started  – I grabbed my supplies at Michaels, as mentioned.  They had the fairy wings, rolls of tulle, and even face paint.  You’ll also need elastic that will fit around the waist.

First, cut the elastic several inches longer than the waist.  Then cut your tulle to about double the length you want (length being waist to knee or wherever).

Then tie on the tulle.  To do this, take a strip of tulle and fold it in half.  Put the fold end slightly over the elastic, then pull the two tail ends through the hold the fold and around the elastic. And pull tight into place.  Then repeat in a black-yellow pattern, all the way around the elastic. – – I’m hoping the picture series below will help walk you through the tie-on process:

Once you get them all on, you  can just tie the elastic around the waist, and it’s good to go!

We tried a blowing glitter pic – can you see it??

Mostly she just kept blowing it back in her face 😉

I love how easy this is to put together, and how cute it turns out!
